About Alan Apt

Alan Apt is the Wilderness Chair for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Sierra Club. He has served on the city council of Fort Collins, Colo. He was chair of the Fort Collins Natural Resources Board, and was on the city’s Commission on Disability. Alan also served on the Fort Collins Planning and Zoning Board and on the Larimer County Planning Commission in Larimer County, Colo.

Alan is a retired computer science book publisher. He has been a contributor to The Denver Post, The Fort Collins Coloradoan, and The Boulder Weekly newspapers.

A prolific outdoor author, Alan has written Snowshoe Routes, Colorado’s Front Range {now in second edition}, published by Colorado Mountain Club Press; Afoot and Afield in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Rocky Mountain National Park – 184 Spectacular Outings in the Colorado Rockies, published by Wilderness Press; and the forthcoming (2017) Ski and Snowshoe Routes – Colorado’s Front Range, also published by Colorado Mountain Club Press.

Alan currently volunteers with the Special Olympics, Ignite Adaptive Sports at Eldora Mountain Resort, and the Bryan Mountain Nordic Ski Patrol.

(Editor’s Note: Alan is a modest person who downplays his achievements. He was, however, recognized as being instrumental in bringing wind power to the City of Fort Collins many years ago.
